Mischabel chain, a long backbone made of eleven 4000, is known to divide Mattertal (Zermatt) from Saastal (Saas Fee). Aside from the first four peaks towards the South, Strahlhorn, Rimpfischhorn, Allalinhorn and Alphubel, classic of ski mountaineering, while climbing the others it’s possible to create a chain between the ridges. The classic crossing, the Nadelgrat, links the first four peaks on the northern side: Durrhenhorn, Hochberghorn, Stecknadelhorn and Nadelhorn), the wildest is the one between Taschhorn and Dom, whilst the most scenic is the Lenzspitze/Nadelhorn.
Technical description
L’accesso alla cresta nord est della Lenzspitze passa per il Mischabel Hütte (3335 m), raggiungibile da Saas Fee. La cresta nella parte centrale presenta una paio di risalti che offrono una divertente arrampicata, mentre la parte terminale è una cresta nevosa molto esposta sullo scivolo della parete nord est. Dalla cima si scende lungo una cresta di neve al Nadeljoch, dove la cresta di salita al Nadelhorn ridiventa rocciosa con il superamento di alcuni gradini di splendido Gneiss. Dal Nadelhorn si scende lungo la facile cresta nord est fino al Windjoch da dove attraversando l’Hohbalmgletscher si raggiunge il Mischabel Hütte e da qui Saas Fee.
